Writing makes me live forever
and ensures I never forget the past
Storytelling is in my DNA
Growing up in a quiet rural town gave me endless hours to read, roam the woods and absorb the rich oral histories of Caribbean folklore.
That was where I first met Anansi, the crafty spider with a Machiavellian mind, and the Rolling Calf, a spectral bull with burning, fiery eyes.
The tales of Mami Wata, the Jamaican mermaid, captured my imagination so completely that I spent my childhood searching for her along the edges of rivers, waterfalls and misty lagoons.
My childhood was filled with tales of animism and colourful etiological stories preserved from West African mythology.
As my love of stories continued to grow, supernatural and gothic horror naturally became my favourite. At the back of the school library, I quickly blazed through classics like Frankenstein, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and The Yellow Wallpaper.
“A good education will never decay”
My curiosity about the origin of stories naturally led me to Lakehead University, where I majored in History. After a lifetime immersed in a world of words, I decided to write my own. As soon as I graduated from Lakehead, I jumped into a writing program at Humber. Here I learned the vital skills that now shape my work.
Learning never stops, and I make it a point to continue updating my skills with micro-internships and certifications.
Whether I am exploring abroad or enjoying my home turf, my life moves at an active, exploratory pace. You will often find me swimming, jogging, or cycling through forests and parks even in the winter, or taking road trips in my trusty Jeep Patriot named Juba.
